Alternative Windows
Basic sewing techniques. Throughout our web site we have indicated the use of different types of stitches which some of you may be unfamiliar with. This page lists a number of the techniques used for these stitches, describes them and with the use of illustrations shows how to sew them.

World Wide Quilting Page
The World's Oldest & Largest Quilting Site. For those who want to learn to quilt, the WWQP presents a series of quilt projects each designed to teach basic techniques. Each block pattern contains complete directions not only for the block, but also for various projects using these blocks so the beginning quilter can create useful items and gifts while they are learning. Look for a new block pattern approximately every month with new projects increasing in difficulty and building on the techniques learned in the previous projects

Find Me A Hobby
Needlework, knitting, crochet, and more. Needlework is the general term of a number of crafts related to the creation and decoration of fabrics. Knitting, Sewing, Crochet, Embroidery, and Quilting are just some of the areas for you to explore.

Sewing, Hobby & Crafting Graphics
Lots of neat graphics.
If you are needing graphics for your scrapbooking or sewing there are a ton to choose from. As long as you are using them for your own use and not to make money they are free. Their terms of usage are listed.

Learn to Knit
Basic Knit Instructions. The instructions below will show you how to cast on and to make a knit stitch, also known as garter stitch. If you follow them exactly, you’ll complete a 7" by 9" block, which will be great practice and help a good cause: Warm Up America! Learn how your block can be joined with others to create an afghan to warm up someone in need.
With these basics, you can make a scarf, hat, pillow, bag or any number of projects.

Crochet Cabana
How to Make a Granny Square. A Granny Square is worked in rounds. Working in rounds is a little bit different from working in rows, though you use the same basic stitches for both. When I say "working in rounds" I am talking about where you start in the middle and your piece grows outward, getting larger, until it is the size you need. This is a very good method to use if you need a square to be a particular size or if you plan to use different colors (see the tutorial on Joining New Yarn/Changing Colors in Granny Squares) and have only a small amount of each. You can always adjust up or down with a granny.

General Quilting Instructions
For the Beginner. Read all directions carefully. Steps are given for several piecing and appliqué techniques. Refer to the sections which apply to your chosen project.
Pre-wash all fabrics and iron. Do not use fabric softener, as it will make your fabrics limp and harder to work with. Fabric starch can be used to make the fabric easier to work with.
